Тема звучит просто, но именно на ней ученики чаще всего застревают: «it's about unity»… и тишина. Праздник-то абстрактный — попробуй объясни на английском, что случилось в 1612 году, кто такой Минин и при чём тут единство.

National Unity Day (B1)
Today I want to tell you about a Russian holiday called National Unity Day. We celebrate it on the 4th of November.
It is a young holiday. It became official in 2005, but it is about a very old event. It remembers the year 1612, when a volunteer army saved Moscow from foreign enemies. The army was led by two men, Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky. On that day, ordinary people came together to help their country.
Today people celebrate it in many cities. There are concerts, fairs and other events. Many families also use this day to relax and spend time together.
I like this holiday because it has a simple but important idea: people are stronger when they are together.
I think this is vital to remember today: if people stand united, they can defeat the tyranny or threat that has seized their country.
