New Year in Russia

New Year is one of the most important and widely celebrated holidays in Russia. It is celebrated on the night of the 31st of December and the 1st of January and is considered a special time for families and friends.

The tradition of celebrating New Year has existed for many years. Although the holiday has a long history, it became especially significant during the Soviet period, when many religious holidays were not officially celebrated. As a result, New Year became the main winter holiday for millions of people.

Before New Year, people usually decorate their homes, put up a New Year tree, and exchange gifts. Children eagerly wait for Ded Moroz (Father Frost) and his granddaughter Snegurochka, who traditionally bring presents and take part in holiday celebrations.

On New Year's Eve, families and friends gather around a festive table with traditional food and drinks. Many people watch holiday shows on television and listen to the President's speech before midnight. When the Kremlin clock strikes twelve, people make wishes, congratulate each other, and welcome the new year.

Another important part of the celebration is fireworks. After midnight, many people go outside to enjoy them and celebrate with their relatives, friends, or neighbours. The festive atmosphere usually lasts for several days because New Year holidays in Russia are quite long.

In my opinion, New Year is a wonderful holiday because it gives people an opportunity to spend time with their loved ones, reflect on the past year, and make plans for the future. It creates a feeling of hope, happiness, and a fresh start.

That's all I wanted to say about New Year in Russia.

• A new beginning or opportunity to start over.
Quitting smoking was her fresh start.
Wipe the slate clean for a fresh start.
